语域理论视域下的英剧字幕翻译研究——以英剧《王冠》为例

A Study of English Drama Subtitle Translation from the Perspective of Register Theory——Taking the British Drama The Crown as an Example

英剧《王冠》讲述了女王伊丽莎白二世自登基以来,王室家庭内部及期间英国影响深远的历史事件。剧中涉及人物为王室成员和英国上流社会人士,因此对话风格极其鲜明,即正式语体扮演主导角色。无论是词汇还是句法,剧中表达均具有英国上层阶级所特有的传统委婉、文雅高贵的特点。部分目的语观众对于“英国王室家庭”这个充满异域特色的概念知之甚少,因此如何精准传递语言风格事关观众对于王室文化的体会和理解。因此,该文以韩礼德提出的语域理论为框架,分析《王冠》中的字幕翻译如何达到源语与目标语言的语域对等,从而塑造鲜明人物性格,最大程度还原并呈现英国王室的尊贵威仪。

The Crown, an English drama, dramatizes the story of the British royal family and some of the far-reaching historical events since the succession of Queen Elizabeth II. The characters involved in the play are members of the royal family and the upper class in Britain, so distinctive royal and upper-class languages are extensively used,which are generally formal. In terms of vocabulary and syntax, the expression is characterized as traditional, euphemistic, elegant and noble, exclusive to the upper class in Britain. The possibility is that some of the target audience knows little about the exotic concept, the British royal family. Therefore, how to accurately convey the language style is relevant to their full grasp and understanding of the royal culture. Based on the register theory proposed by Halliday,this paper analyzes the way to achieve register equivalence in subtitle translation between source language and target language, thus presenting characters with vivid features and reproducing the dignity and prestige of the British royal family to the greatest extent.
