Neural chimera research is of a unique kind that implicates crucial scientific and social values, with which the ethical concerns follow. This paper focuses on ethical issues about expressing human neural tissue, cells, or genes in nonhuman animals. By comparing the definition of chimera in the former and latest guideline of International Society for Stem Cell Research, this paper shows how the non-embryonic origins and genetically distinct concept of chimera would be problematic and its implication to ethical investigation. To articulate what really bothers us in the ethical sense, animal welfare and the moral status of nonhuman subjects have been discussed with the latest research. Some suggestions are put forward from the perspective of scientific necessity and normative rationality.
