何绍基身经清嘉庆、道光、咸丰、同治四朝,一生宦游经历丰富,他既为许多重要学术、文化事业的发起人,也是同时期相关政治、经济、军事、文化教育活动的见证人。何绍基根据其亲身经历与所见所闻,养成逐日记录的习惯。日记内容涉及当时的政治事件、学术思想、仕宦交游、文学艺术、科举教育、金石文字、碑帖书画、宗教文物、风土民情等,可以说是晚清社会的一个缩影。何绍基日记具有文献和书法艺术的双重价值,随着对日记的文献与史料价值的挖掘,学界越来越重视从学术价值的角度认识何绍基日记。近年来对何绍基日记的整理、研究与出版,呈现的是一幅艺术与学术相互交融的图景。

He Shaoji lived through four emperors'reigns in the Qing Dynasty:Jiaqing,Daoguang,Xianfeng,and Tongzhi.He had rich social experience in the circle of the Qing officials.He not only initiated many important academic and cultural projects,but also witnessed political,economic,military,cultural and educational activities of that period.He Shaoji kept the habit of writing a diary every day,recording his personal experience.His diary involves political events,academic thinking,social life of the officials,literature,art,education on imperial examinations,inscriptions,calligraphy,paintings,religious relics,and local customs.It can be said that his diary is a microcosm of the late Qing society.He Shaoji's diary has both literature and calligraphic values.As the study of He Shaoji's diary goes further,the recognition of its academic value grows.In recent years,the collation,study,and publication of He Shaoji's diary presented a picture of the exchange and integration of art and academics.
