In the Song dynasty,with the number of thank-you poems for gifts being on the rapid increase,Su Shi became a typical representative of writing for gifts.Su Shi reshaped the writing technique extending gratitude for presents,thus eliminating the stereotyped writing of gift appreciation before the Song dynasty by integrating his personal life experience by virtue of a biographical method,and therefore endowing the present with personal aesthetic significance and an emotional symbol.As a medium of emotional communication,presents help restore the common memories with friends in the recollection.In the dialogues between“You”and“I”,the connection between the two parties is therefore established,the communicative function of poetry realized.Su Shi’s writing for the presents,which endowed them with rich cultural significance and was involved in the formation of Song Diao(a literary tune popular in the Song dynasty),can thus be regarded as an epitome of the state of social intercourse of Song people.
