Plant essential oil is a aromatic substance, which has the functions of bacteriostasis, anti-inflammatory,reducing stress, improving production performance and animal product quality, improving immunity and regulating intestinal flora structure. As a plant feed additive, plant essential oil has considerable application prospect in replacing antibiotics. The paper reviews the mainly introduces source, composition, extraction method, biological function and research progress of plant essential oil in animal production, to provide reference for further application of plant essential oil in animal production.
