On the Research Value of Private Narratives in Literary History——A Case Study of the Diaries and Letters of Modern Literati

日记、书信的重要价值在于主流之外的个人化叙事。个人对文学史的认识与公共叙事有时完全不一样,这包括对作家、作品、事件的描述和评价等方面。日记、书信中蕴含丰富的材料,举凡作家个案、作品背景、文学论争、文学思潮变迁等研究都能从日记、书信中找到大量资料。民国时期大量日记、书信所潜藏的事实材料和阐发潜力,是建构中国原创性学术话语的丰厚资源。通过日记、书信材料,以微观的视角,可以发现被以往中国现代文学史叙述所忽略或遮蔽的现象和问题。

The important value of diaries and letters lies in the personal narratives outside the mainstream.Personal perceptions of literary history are sometimes completely different from public narratives,including descriptions and evaluations of writers,works,and events.The materials contained in these diaries and letters are so tremendous that a wide range of information can be found in these private documents,such as the writers′individual cases,the background of the works,the literary controversies and the transition of the trends of literary thoughts.The factual materials and their potential for interpretation hidden in a large number of diaries and letters during the Republic of China are rich resources for constructing Chinese original academic discourse.Diaries and letters can on a microscopic level help to discover phenomena and problems that have been neglected or obscured by previous narratives of modern Chinese literary history.
