Vietnam’s Perception of and Response to China-US Strategic Competition:A Flexible Strategy for Stabilizing Domestic Economy and Balancing Diplomacy

越南高度关注中美战略竞争,认为其对越南既是机遇也是挑战。越南在中美战略竞争中采取积极的应对措施,力求平衡中美关系并试图从中获取最大收益。这些措施包括不选边、利用多边机制积极主动融入国际社会、推动东盟中心地位建设等。未来,越南灵活的外交策略依然不会改变,寻求安定的政治环境与经济利益最大化是其目标。但是越南国内新冠肺炎疫情反复、国际局势多变等因素仍然是影响其有效应对中美战略竞争的限制条件。

Vietnam pays close attention to the strategic competition between China and the United States, and it believes that it is both an opportunity and a challenge for Vietnam. During the period of Sino-US strategic competition, Vietnam has taken active measures to balance Sino-US relations and to gain maximum benefits from it. These measures include not choosing sides, using multilateral mechanisms, actively integrating with the world, and promoting the building of ASEAN’s centrality. In the future, Vietnam’s flexible diplomatic strategy will remain unchanged, and its goal is to seek a stable political environment and maximize economic interests. However, factors such as the fluctuating COVID-19 epidemic in Vietnam and the volatile international situation are still several restraints that affect its effective use of the strategic competition between China and the United States.
