Organization Competitions and Party Disputes: A Study on the Controversy of the CPC Hubei Riot (1927-1928)

湖北团组织初建时声望较党组织高,党组织以党团分化削减团组织力量,引起团组织不满,致使在武汉唐生智政权溃败时,党团围绕是否应举行暴动产生分歧。长江局、中共湖北省委、团湖北省委互争雄长,武汉暴动失败之责问题得不到解决。团湖北省委诉诸中共中央,中央派中共湖北特委前往查办,但中共湖北特委偏向团湖北省委,对长江局和中共湖北省委处置有失偏颇。最后中央重新考量湖北暴动争议问题,为长江局和中共湖北省委正名,结束了多方纷争局面。党团对中国革命发展路径认知的不同,是造成两者诸多纷争的缘由,也是中共探索适合自身发展革命道路的复杂性与多面性之所在。

The reputation of the Communist Youth League in Hubei was higher than that of the Party organization at the beginning of its establishment. The Party organization weakened the strength of the League organization through dividing the Party and the League, which caused the League organization discontent. As a result, when the regime of Tang Shengzhi collapsed in Wuhan, the Party and the League argued in whether to hold a riot. The Yangtze River Bureau, the Hubei Provincial Committee of the CPC and the Hubei Provincial Committee of the Communist Youth League competed with each other, meanwhile the problem of responsibility for the failure of Wuhan could not be solved. The Hubei Provincial Committee of the Communist Youth League resorted to the Central Committee of the CPC. The Central Committee sent the Hubei Special Committee of the CPC to investigate, but the Hubei Special Committee of the CPC was biased towards the Hubei Provincial Committee of the Communist Youth League, and was biased against the Yangtze River Bureau and the Hubei Provincial Committee of the CPC. Finally, the central government reconsidered the riot dispute in Hubei, then rehabilitated the name of the Yangtze River Bureau and the Hubei Provincial Committee of the CPC, ended the multi-party dispute situation. The different cognition in the Chinese revolution is the reason for the disputes between the Party and the League. It also shows the complexity and versatility in exploring suitable revolution path for the CPC.
