With the sustained and rapid development of economy and society, the road traffic planning and design of small and medium-sized cities are facing practical challenges and tests, which puts forward higher requirements for the corresponding planning and design methods and concepts. How to use scientific and effective methods and strategies to comprehensively optimize and enhance the effectiveness of road traffic planning and design has become a key issue in the development of small and medium-sized cities. Based on this, the article first introduces the connotation of urban road traffic planning and design, analyzes the current situation and common problems of road traffic planning and design in small and medium-sized cities, and then discusses the optimization path of road traffic planning and design from multiple angles in combination with practical experience for reference.
