“皋”“睪(澤)”再辨

Rethinking of the Relationship between Gao(皋)and Ze(睪、澤)

《诗·小雅·鹤鸣》“鹤鸣于九皋”句中的“皋”之所以训作“澤”,因为“皋”是“睪(澤)”的字形误写,“澤”又是“睪”的后起增旁字。实则不然。“皋”有“澤”义,是该字的应有之义;“睪”亦非“澤”的初文。“皋”“睪”之所以存在大量的形近而讹产生的正字与形讹字的异文,是因为“皋”的本义和基本义都是“澤”,而“澤”的声符“睪”又与“皋”形体相近,以致混用。

Pan Mutian and Pan Wuyun’s article Textual Research and Analysis of Gao(皋)and Ze(睪、澤)holds that Ze(澤)is the addition of Ze(睪),and that Ze(睪)is the original form of Ze(澤),which,however,can be proved wrong.
