实践是影响图书馆学人学术研究活动的重要因素之一。杜定友厚植爱国主义情怀,遵循“获取知识、产生信念、形成与行为相统一”的实践逻辑,直接推动了其对图书馆的学术研究,抗战时期编印中日问题研究书目,时刻关心国家运道;将理论与实际相结合,奠定了中国图书分类法,创建了中国图书馆学体系;注重地方文献建设,影响巨大。在不断的实践和研究中,杜氏图书馆学形成了古今并重,开拓创新、知行合一,经世致用、博精互补,开放包容的特点,为推动我国图书馆事业第一次高潮做出了不可磨灭的贡献。
