冯契在中国哲学史研究领域的贡献之一便是创新性地探索了中国哲学的古代和近代两种传统。在他看来,中国古代哲学传统表现为对性与天道等形上智慧的追求,重视培养和造就理想人格,较充分地关注和发展了辩证逻辑。中国近代哲学在展开过程中,渐渐形成了历史观的革命性变革、知行被赋予实践内涵、思维方式的科学转型、推崇唯意志论等近代传统。冯契在《中国古代哲学的逻辑发展》一书中揭示了中国古代哲学的逻辑展开传统,而在《中国近代哲学的革命进程》中则率先提出并论证了中国近代哲学的革命传统。

One of Feng Qi’s contributions in the field of Chinese philosophy history is his innovative exploration of the ancient and modern traditions of Chinese philosophy. In his opinion,the ancient Chinese philosophical tradition is manifested in the pursuit of metaphysical wisdom such as human nature and the Tao of Heaven,stressing to cultivate ideal personality and paying full attention to and developing dialectical logic. During the development of modern Chinese philosophy,modern traditions of the revolutionary change in the view of history,knowledge and action being endowed with practical connotation,the scientific transformation of the way of thinking,and the advocacy of voluntarism have gradually formed. Feng Qi revealed the logical development law of Chinese ancient philosophy in The Logical Development of Ancient Chinese Philosophy,and in The Revolutionary Process of Modern Chinese Philosophy,he firstly proposed and demonstrated the revolutionary tradition of Chinese modern philosophy.
