On Reader’s Response of the English Translation of Moral Education Thought in Lunyu

摘要 《论语》英译研究成果众多,但专门探讨其德育思想英译的比较研究尚未见到。以读者反应理论为基础,通过在美国的问卷调查收集数据,对数据分组编码,分析影响《论语》德育思想英译接受效果的因素。结果表明:性别与中英文的掌握和熟练程度对译文接受影响不大,而读者的职称、学历及其对原作的喜爱程度,译者的翻译策略和方法对译文接受有一定的影响。从内容上看,外国读者还不能够完全接受中华传统儒家思想文化,这就要求译者能够有针对性地创作出易于读者接受的译作,从而有效地推动中国文学作品更好地“走出去”,使中华传统优秀思想与文化在全球得以广泛传播。 Based on the theory of reader’s response, this paper analyzes the factors that affect the acceptance of moral education thought in Lunyu through data collected and classified through a questionnaire survey in the United States. The results show that gender and proficiency in both Chinese and English have little influence on the reception of the translated text, while title, education background of the readers and their preference for the original work, as well as the translator’s translation strategies and methods, have a certain influence on the translation acceptance. In terms of content, foreign readers can’t completely accept the traditional Chinese Confucian culture. This requires translators to create targeted translations that are easy for readers to accept, so as to effectively promote the “going global” of Chinese literary works and make excellent Chinese traditional ideas and culture widely spread around the world.
