Julian Barnes’England,England interweaves the protagonist’s life experience with the construction and operation of Isle of Wight theme park as the dual main narration lines. In the metaphorical narrative of personal destiny and social change,it reveals the contradiction between English cultural request and contemporary cultural orientation. From the perspective of cultural criticism, this paper extracts and integrates the parts of cultural identity and cultural memory in cultural theory, and analyzes how Barnes uses novel narration to demonstrate the contradiction and dilemma of British society in the process of seeking cultural identity.
