梁启超与五四新文化关系密切,他从多方面推动了新文化运动的发展,对新文化运动的发展作出了独特的贡献。梁启超积极投身于文化教育活动,他组织共学社,编译西学;创办讲学社,延请东西方博学鸿硕讲学砥砺思想;创办或改造《改造》《晨报》《时事新报》《学灯》等新媒体。尤其是在20世纪20年代,梁启超撰写了一系列以儒学为重点的中国学术思想史论著,显示出在“整理国故”运动中的独立性,这些作品非常清晰自觉地表达了他的中国新文化建设思想和方案。梁启超与新文化运动中的其他保守派存在重大差异,也正是这种差异,使得梁启超由一个有落伍嫌疑的晚清立宪派维新思想家、政论家,变成一个在20世纪20年代有广泛影响的学术大家,受到学界瞻仰和推崇,继续在新文化运动中成为风云人物。
