Pure Fiction is a short story written by Alice Munro, a Canadian writer and Nobel Prize winner. It is regarded as an important representative work of Munro’s short stories. The story of Joyce, a music teacher, Christie, the stepdaughter of Joyce’s ex-husband, and their relationship captured the attention of readers and academics. From the perspective of trauma narrative, this paper analyzes the formation of Joyce’s marriage and trauma, analyzes the intergenerational transmission of trauma to Christie, and points out that Christie and Joyce respectively rebuilt their inner truth through trauma testimony and obtained healing. Analysis from the perspective of trauma narrative can help to clear away the fog left by the open-ended ending of Pure Fiction and further help to understand the plot and characters.
