从操纵理论看政治话语英译的省略现象及其原因——以《今日中国》杂志为例

Study on Omission in the English Translation of Political Discourse from the Perspective of Manipulation Theory——Take China Today as an Example

不同语言背后的社会文化和思维习惯千差万别,为减少不必要的交流障碍,省略是政治话语翻译中较为普遍的现象。以《今日中国》杂志为例,其中政治类通稿的英译存在五大类别的省略现象,即省略形象化表达、重复性内容、文化负载词、不必要数字和针对性表述。结合勒菲弗尔提出的操纵理论进行分析,发现省略现象主要受系统内诗学因素及系统外意识形态影响。此类研究可加深人们对政治翻译中省略现象的认识并为政治话语翻译实践提供参考。

There are different cultures and ways of thinking behind different languages.To reduce barriers of communication,translators often omit some information of the source text.In the English translation of political articles in China Today,there are mainly five categories of omission,namely omission of images,repetitive content,culture-loaded words,unnecessary numbers and targeted wording.From the perspective of manipulation theory by Andre Lefevere,it is found out that poetics inside the literary system and ideology outside the system jointly contribute to omission.The study is to deepen the understanding concerning omission in the translation of political works,and offer inspirations for political translation.
