The Past and Future Trend of English Literary Studies:An Interview with Professor Li Weifang

李伟昉教授认为,学术研究应该有明确的问题导向、鲜明的比较意识、宽阔的学术视野,研究对象应有思想性。外国文学领域应加强对经典作家的研究。英语文学研究根据地域可以分为英国文学研究、美国文学研究、非洲英语文学研究、澳洲英语文学研究、拉美英语文学研究等,我们既要加强每个区域内的英语文学研究,还要注意它们之间的关系研究,尤其需要加强各区域英语文学文化研究与中国文学文化之间的关系研究。

Professor Li Weifang believes that scholars should have sharp academic consciousness,a keen sense of comparison and broad horizon.They should focus their research on writers and works with deep literary thoughts.The field of foreign literature studies should strengthen the research on classic authors.In terms of geographic region,the studies of English language literature can be divided into British literature study,American literature study,African English literature study,Australian English literature study,Latin American English literature study,etc.We need to strengthen both the studies of English literature within each region and the study of the relationship between them.Particular attention should be given to their connection with Chinese literature and culture.
