Important Contribution of Tan Kah-kee s Newspaper Remarks to theFounding of New China:Taking Nanqiao Daily as an Example

陈嘉庚注重报刊舆论作用,解放战争时期他在《南侨日报》频频发表言论,揭露蒋介石政府腐败独裁、祸国殃民;称赞共产党廉洁民主,有能力建设新中国;反对外国干涉中国内政,捍卫国家主权、民族独立;宣传中共良善政治,将祖国复兴大任寄望于新政府;构想政治、经济、文化等方面的改革以建设新中国。陈嘉庚在《南侨日报》上的言论从海外舆论领域强有力地参与了人民解放战争,为创建新中国做出重要历史贡献。他在《南侨日报》的评论文具有鲜明的时代特色和创作特点,奠定了他著名时政评论家的地位,体现了中国传统知识分子匡世济民、救国安邦的本色和秉性。

Tan Kah-kee paid attention to the role of press and public opinion.During the Liberation War,by frequently voicing his views in Nanqiao Daily,he exposed the corruption and dictatorship of the Chiang Kai-Shek government and the harm to the country and people;praised the Communist Party for its integrity and democracy,and its ability to build the new China;opposed US military aid to Chiang government and defended national sovereignty and independence;conceived political,economic,and cultural reforms to build a new China.Tan Kah-kee s remarks in Nanqiao Daily,from the aspect of overseas public opinion,were a strong participation in the People s Liberation War and made important historical contributions to the establishment of New China.His commentary in Nanqiao Daily had characteristics of the times and distinctive creative features,which helped establish his status as a well-known political commentator,and demonstrated Chinese traditional intellectuals’nature and disposition of saving the people and the country.
