摘要
Green transformation has become a dominant trend in global economic development.Statistics showed that the transportation sector contributed 17 percent of global greenhouse gas emissions.A viable alternative for fossil fuel-powered cars, the electric vehicle(EV)has emerged as key to low-carbon development. The transition to EV also offers automakers, especially those in East Asia,a golden opportunity for expansion.Well-established automakers in Japan and the Republic of Korea have a competitive edge in the emerging EV industry thanks to their technological capabilities and large market share, while Chinese car makers are eyeing overtaking their foreign competitors on the new track of electric vehicles. In the first half of 2022,over 2.2 million new energy vehicles(NEVs)were sold in China, and the penetration of pure electric vehicles in the passenger vehicle market rose to 21.6 percent,a figure expected to soar to 40.6 percent by 2026.China has become the world’s largest NEV market, and Chinese car makers are embarking on a daring move to operations in Southeast Asia.
