陆谷孙风格的词典学提要

A Delineation of Gusun Lu’s Lexicographic Thoughts

陆谷孙先生(1940-2016)是中国当代杰出的英汉双语词典学家,他主编的《新英汉词典》(1975)以及《英汉大词典》(1989)是上世纪70年代起国人学习英语的首选工具书。本文意图总结陆谷孙为新时代汉语词典学留下的宝贵思想遗产,对具有其个人风格的英汉双语词典学要义做初步梳理与探讨。第一部分介绍他在复旦大学英汉词典编纂传统中的地位和贡献,第二部分阐述陆谷孙风格词典学的四方面内容:词典翻译、词典研编、词典教学以及词典中的英汉文化互补。最后以他本人提出的“互腴”二字概括陆谷孙词典学思想的一个基础(实践与理论互腴)和三个方法(译编与研编互腴,研究与教学互腴,中西文化互腴)。

Professor Gusun Lu(1940-2016) was a distinguished English-Chinese bilingual lexicographer of contemporary China. He was the editor-in-chief of A New English-Chinese Dictionary(1975) and The English-Chinese Dictionary(unabridged, 1989), both of which have been the first choice of Chinese learners of English successively since the late 1970 s. This study aims to explore Lu’s legacy for bilingual dictionary-making in modern Chinese and summarize tentatively his lexicographic thoughts marked by idiosyncrasies. The first part introduces Lu’s status in and contribution to the history of English-Chinese dictionary-making of Fudan University. Then it delineates Lu’s essential ideas about bilingual lexicography in four aspects, namely, dictionary translation, dictionary design and making, dictionary teaching and cultural interaction in dictionary text. Lastly, Lu’s lexicographic thoughts are summarized by his own proposition of “Mutual Nourishment(MN)” between practice and theorization as the basis, and MN between translation and compilation, research and teaching, and Chinese and English cultures as the ways.
