Future Carbon-Neutral Fuels

In April 2022,Porsche announced an investment of$75 million in Chilean eFuel producer Highly Innovative Fuels(HIF)for a 12.5%stake,a big step forward in pursuing commercial liquid synthetic fuels,or eFuels.For the HIF's eFuel production method,it begins with electrolys is using wind power,splitting water into hydrogen and oxygen gases.Then the hydrogen is combined with the captured carbon dioxide from the air to form synthesized methanol.After that,the methanol can be converted and blended into a liquid fuel under current fuel standards by using ExxonMobil's methanol-to-gasoline(MtG)process.HIF expects to start producing eFuel in Chile in the middle of this year.
