Alai's Sichuan-accented Chinese bears a hint of frankness and humor.Born in 1959 in Marerkang County of Aba Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture in Sichuan,Alai is one of the country's most influential contemporary writers.In 2000,his magnum opus Red Poppies won the fifh Maodun Literature Prize,China's highest literary award,making him the youngest recipient at 41.
