Ever since I was a little girl,my mom would tell me about her favorite soup from her childhood that my grandmother would make every time she got sick-gedatang,or dough knots soup.It also goes by a few other less-appealing names,like pimple soup andwart soup,because geda in Chinese uses the same characters as these skin problems.Gross,I know,but unappetizing names aside,the soup is delicious and in my family,it's got history.
