In the late Ming and early Qing dynasties, a bulk of monks from Fujian sailed to Japan and created Huangbo, which not only injected new vitality into the flagging Japanese Buddhism, but also had a profound impact on Japanese literature, language, calligraphy, painting, architecture, bridge building, medicine, diet, tea ceremony, woodblock printing in the Edo period. With the continuous development of the Huangbo, the ideas and culture passed from China transcended the religious level and affected all levels of Japanese social life in the Edo period, forming a comprehensive cultural form called Huangbo Culture. Today, the Huangbo culture proceeds to promote the cultural exchanges between China and Japan and strengthen the contacts between the people of the two countries, which is also an important demonstration of cultural exchanges and mutual learning between Asian civilizations.
