The Survey of Jingyang Baofeng Temple in Deyang City,Sichuan Province

旌阳宝峰寺位于四川省德阳市,坐西向东,今占地面积近1800平方米。2020年5月,四川省文物考古研究院等单位对旌阳宝峰寺开展现场调查,对建筑整体进行航拍、测绘。旌阳宝峰寺至迟于清康熙年间建成,现存主要建筑为咸丰、光绪年间所建,包括前殿(牛王殿)、正殿(大佛殿)、南配殿(娘娘殿)、北配殿(龙王殿)等,其大木梁架和木装修大部分保持清代原貌,并保留题记26条、楹联6副、墓碑1通、石匾2通、修桥碑1通及彩画、壁画30余幅,种类丰富,要素齐全,工艺考究,是研究宝峰寺营造史、地方宗教史和民俗史的宝贵实物证据,具有重要价值。

Situated at a flat terrain on the northern bank of Shiting River, the Jingyang Baofeng Temple is located in Deyang City, Sichuan Province, covering an area of nearly 1800 square meters. It was built no later than the reign of Emperor Kangxi(1662-1722) of the Qing Dynasty, with the extant main structures built during the reign of Xianfeng(1851-1861) and Guangxu(1875-1908), including the Front Hall(Niuwang Hall), the Main Hall(Dafo Hall), the South Hall(Niangniang Hall), and the North Hall(Longwang Hall). In May 2020, Sichuan Province Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology and other units conducted an on-site survey of Baofeng temple, through aerial photography and mapping of the buildings, discovering a total of 26 inscriptions, six couplets, one tombstone, two stone plaques, one tablet inscription of building bridge and more than 30 color paintings and murals, among which the inscriptions and stone plaques contain exact years and names of people, providing conclusive evidences of the history of Baofeng temple. The subjects on the stone couplets, wood carvings and murals involve historical allusions such as Arhats, the Eight Immortals, ploughing and reading, mythological stories, opera stories, auspicious signs, etc., with distinctive local features. They are physical evidences of religious secularization at that time, which are of great value in the study of local religions and folk customs combined with the records of religious factions and temple fairs of Confucianism, Buddhism, Taoism and folk customs in the inscription.
