The “Immanent Will” in Thomas Hardy’s Poetry

纵观整个哈代诗歌生涯,可以看到他对存在于宇宙背后的本质力量这类抽象的哲学问题十分感兴趣。论文从哈代诗歌创作的四个阶段入手,系统分析了体现“内在意志”这一哲学思想的主要诗篇,并探讨该思想的产生、形成与发展及其主要原因,其中包括其性格与个人经历,也包括当时一批哲学家所提出的哲学思想对其造成不可忽视的影响。

Throughout Hardy’s poetic career, we can see that he is very interested in such abstract philosophical problems as the essential power behind the universe. Starting from the four stages of Hardy’s poetry creation, this paper systematically analyzes the main poems that embody the philosophical thought of“immanent will”, and discusses the emergence, formation and development of this thought and its main reasons, including its character and personal experience, as well as the influence of the philosophical thought put forward by a group of philosophers at that time.
