A long time ago,in the south eastern Chinese province of Zhejiang,there lived a young wayfaring scholar named Ning Caicheng(宁采臣).One day,whilst seeking shelter from a particularly discourteous storm,he stumbled across a beautiful Buddhist temple.Despite its pristine cond让ion,the temple seemed to be completely deserted.While wondering the courtyard,a curious Ning spotted an eruditely dressed young man.As he approached,the young man introduced himself as Yan Chixia(燕赤霞),explaining that,although it was not his home,he had been living at the temple for quiet some time.Re-assured by Yan's warm welcome and smart appearence-and not wanting to face the baying storm outside-Ning decided it best to spend the night.
