Through the two emotional experiences of Fu Dacheng, an intellectual, the novel records the shocks brought by the changes of the times to the thoughts, emotions and memories of a generation. The poetic construction of the novel from beginning to end is Wang Meng’s empirical expression of life and humanity in his work, while the pure and sentimental space of love attempts to transcend the subject-object relationship in pursuit of a rich and colorful world of freedom. The Wind of Laughter proves that the author not only focuses on external “likeness”, but also delves into the inner philosophy of life, reminding people to gain insight into the transcendence of freedom in the limited activities of life.
