The New Position of Historical Paintings: A Comprehensive Review of Artwork Creation on National Major Historical Themes

21世纪初启动的中国“重大历史题材美术创作”工程是一个以图像方式进行文化记忆、塑造民族形象、反映国家精神风貌的重大文化项目。中华人民共和国的历史题材美术创作经历了变革激情、红色叙事、沉寂蜕变、历史画复兴4个时期。与蓬勃发展的美术创作相比,国家重大题材美术创作的研究一直处于相对薄弱的状态。新时期以来的历史题材美术创作突破了以往主题性美术创作的思维定式,摆脱了历史画创作“图解历史”的困境,在最大程度上立身民族立场,将国家意识与个人意志相协调,它以历史事件隐喻现实生活,在历史事件与现实的关联中去表现人物的“内在世界”,并从个人独特视角赋予历史画以新的意义。

Starting at the beginning of the 21^(st) century,the national project of artwork creation on major historical themes is a significant culture program which uses images to construct culture memory,builds the national image and represents national spirits.There are four stages of artwork creation on historical themes in the period of the People’s Republic of China:revolutionary passion,patriotic narration,soundless transformation and historical paintings revival.Comparing with the flourishing development of art production,researches concerning artwork creation on national major themes are still relatively weak.In the new era,artwork on historical themes encourages creators to think beyond the mindset of traditional creation themes,as well as getting out of the dilemma of“interpreting history with images”.By this way,standing in the position of nationality,it has the ability to coordinate the will of the state with the will of individuals.On the other hand,artwork creation on historical themes in the new era makes a metaphor between history events and reality,so as to describe the“inner world”of people in the connection of historical events and reality,and interpret new meanings of historical paintings from the unique individual perspective.
