毛泽东和习近平著作英译对比研究

A Comparative Study of the English Translation of Mao’s and Xi’s Works

毛泽东和习近平著作的翻译,对构建中国国际话语体系具有重要意义。翻译两位领导人著作是在不同的历史背景下进行的,研究这些翻译活动,对当今中国的外宣传翻译有一定启示。本文从操控理论的角度,通过对比探讨了在意识形态、诗学和赞助人三个层面上的英文翻译活动。研究发现:(1)政府赞助人和出版商赞助人共同作用,在发起翻译、选择译者、组织翻译和翻译出版等方面发挥各自的作用。(2)译者的个人意识形态符合中国主流意识形态。(3)中国的外宣翻译反映了源文化的社会主流意识形态和诗学,但不应忽视目标文化的诗学。(4)中国政治文本的翻译策略从异化转向多元化。本研究加深了我们对新时期中国政治文本外译的理解,有助于我们更好地从事政治文献的对外翻译实践。

The translation of the works by Mao Zedong and Xi Jinping,the first and the current top leaders of New China,is of great importance to the construction of China’s international discourse system.The activities of translating the two leaders’works were conducted in different historical backgrounds.The activities should be investigated to inspire contemporary Chinese foreign-oriented publicity translation.From the perspective of Manipulation Theory,the English translation activities at the ideological,poetics and patronage levels are explored by comparison.The research finds that:(1)The government-patron and the publisher-patron acted together to exert their power on such steps as initiating translation,selecting translators,organizing translation and translation publication.(2)The translators’personal ideology conformed to the Chinese mainstream ideology.(3)Foreign-oriented publicity translation in China reflected the social mainstream ideology and poetics of the source culture,but the poetics of the target culture should not be ignored.(4)The translation strategies for Chinese political texts have changed from foreignization-orientation to diversification.This research deepens our understanding of the political text translation for foreign-oriented publicity in the new era of China,and enlightens relevant translation practice.
