Distance Cohesion and Pause Cohesion in English Translation of Practical Chinese Documents

过去20多年翻译界很少研究微观翻译技巧,而多数翻译硕士论文涉及翻译技巧,而且往往只使用少数几条翻译技巧来支撑西方宏观理论。本文则探讨数量较多的新颖翻译技巧,意在拓展翻译硕士生的视野,更好地指导翻译实践,更有力地支撑宏观译论。本文从新的视角探讨了“距离衔接”和“停顿衔接”,突破了韩礼德的衔接理论框架,总结出数量较多的特殊翻译技巧。

Over the past 20-plus years,few translation theorists have studied micro translation techniques,whereas most master-degree translation theses have attempted to use only a few translation techniques to support Western macro translation theories.This paper,however,probes into many practical translation techniques largely unexplored so far,in a bid to widen the horizons for translation students and support macro theories.Unrestricted by Halliday’s theoretical framework of cohesive devices,the paper studies Distance Cohesion and Pause Cohesion in Chinese-English translation,and summarizes 20-odd micro translation techniques,which serve to meet the actual needs in translating practical documents.
