On the Rhetoric Techniques of Eugene O’Neill’s Early Drama “Abortion”

作为美国严肃戏剧的开拓者,尤金·奥尼尔在戏剧内容及形式方面的革新为戏剧创作者和评论者开拓了新的道路,其作品为现当代戏剧创作提供了模板。而学界对于尤金·奥尼尔剧作的研究主要集中在对其晚期剧作的主题思想和文本分析上,少有对早期作品的研究。因此,文章以奥尼尔早期戏剧《流产》为例,试图从修辞手法的使用上探究剧中的女性形象以及凸显在男性权力场域控制下的女性命运。

As a pioneer of American serious drama, Eugene O’Neill’s innovation in drama content and form has opened up a new path for drama creators and critics, and his works have provided a template for modern and contemporary drama creation. The academic research on his plays is mainly focused on the theme and text analysis of his late plays, and there is little research on his early works. Therefore, the article takes O’Neill’s early play “Abortion” as an example to explore the female images in the play and the fate of women under the control of male power field from the use of rhetorical devices.
