Teaching Practice and Reflection of Applying POA to Chinese-to-English Translation of Introduction Texts

为期七周的简介类文本英译POA教学实践表明:POA可以显著提高学生英译简介类文本的水平,尤其是在目标词和词块英译、译文时态使用、原文结构调整方面的产出能力,但对文化内容英译以及译文风格处理的提升效果不明显。访谈显示,POA能够提高学生的学习兴趣,增加学习动力和投入。POA翻译教学需把握好教学材料的难度,注意文化内容促成的方法,注重知识的滚动与重现,处理好目的性教学内容与手段性教学内容的关系。

This study examines the teaching effect of applying Production-Oriented Approach(POA)to Chinese-to-English translation of introduction texts for seven weeks.It is found that this approach can significantly improve students’output capacity in the Chinese-to-English translation of introduction texts,especially the translation of targeted words and chunks,the use of tense,and the adjustment of the structure;however,it shows no signifi cant eff ect on the translation of cultural content and on the processing of the style.Interview results with teachers and students show that POA can increase students’learning interest,motivation and investment.It is suggested that when using POA,we should be alert at the diffi culty of teaching materials,the methods of cultural content enabling,the repetition and representation of language points,and the relationship between aim-based teaching contents and means-based teaching contents.
