Examples of Errors in the Writings of Hunan People in the Siku Quanshu General Catalogue

湖南人著述收入《四库全书》者38种,存目著录者约110种。馆臣为每种著述都撰写一篇提要,或简介作者生平,或概括图书内容,或评价优劣得失。由于《四库全书》的钦定性质,这些曾经御览御定的提要,就成为了介绍、评介作者及文献最权威的依据。但由于馆臣或所见有限、或学术异趋、或学识参差,其中难免有失误之处。今列出二十余处,以免再以讹传讹。

There are 38 kinds of Hunan writings included in"Siku Quanshu",and about 110 kinds are recorded in the catalogue.The librarians wrote a synopsis for each work,either introducing the author's life,or summarizing the content of the book,or evaluating the merits and demerits.Due to the nature of the Siku Quanshu,these synopses,which were once reviewed by the imperial government,became the most authoritative basis for introducing and evaluating authors and documents.However,due to the limited knowledge of the museum officials,or the different academic trends,or the differences in knowledge,there are inevitably mistakes.This is a list of more than twenty errors to avoid further blackmail.
