In the Luxi language,the term"lao shir"is a very representative form of address.It is often used in the situation of asking a stranger for help or talking with a stranger,expressing a kind of courtesy and respect to the other part.Although the semantic meaning of the word"lao shir"has many in common with that of"teacher"and"master",it still shows us its own particular characteristics after comparing those three.By analyzing the pragmatic function of"lao shir"and further exploring the reasons why it is still universal but not widely used in this era,we can gain a deeper understanding of the term"lao shir".The appropriate use of"lao shir"can not only better achieve the communication purpose,but also narrow the relationship and distance between the two parties.
