摘要
《李希霍芬中国旅行日记》为近代德国著名地理学家李希霍芬在中国旅行时的日记,详细记载了他在中国的经历和见闻。1868年12月,李希霍芬从浙江宁波乘船沿运河前往江苏镇江,后又于次年3月从镇江乘船沿运河北上至淮安王家营,在其旅行日记中留下了众多有关运河交通水利设施、城镇风光和风土民情的记载和描述。这些记载和描述在今天看来仍然具有宝贵的史料价值,为研究晚清运河城市史和社会史提供了重要视角。通过对其内容的解读,亦可以看出这一时期太平天国起义与运河衰落的关系。
Richthofen's Chinese Travel Diary is the diary by famous German geographer Richthofen during his travels in China,which records in detail his experiences in China.In December 1868,Richthofen took a boat from Ningbo,Zhejiang Province to Zhenjiang,Jiangsu along the Canal,then took a boat from Zhenjiang along the Canal north to Wangjiaying of Huai an in March of the following year.He left many records and descriptions in his travel diary,related to the transportation and water conservancy facilities,town scenery and local customs of the Grand Canal.These records and descriptions still have valuable historical value today,providing us with an important perspective for studying the history of the cities and society along the Canal in late Qing Dynasty.Based on the interpretation,the relationship between the Taiping Rebellion War and the decline of the Canal in this period is revealed.
