This paper presents and interprets two festival customs related to Tomb-sweeping Day in“A Dream of Red Mansions”,namely sacrificing to the dead and kite flying.Sacrificing to the dead in Iron Threshold Temple inherited the custom that imperial family nobles worshiped in the ancestral temple in Tomb-Sweeping Festival.Cao Xueqin had taken back his own kite and gave it to others.Cutting a kite means unlucky and taking back the kite that others let go is a taboo, perhaps derive from Cao’s art processing.
