An Exploration and Analysis of the Financial Awareness and Activities of Overseas Chinese in North America in the Late Qing Dynasty

近代北美华侨的移民动机和过程与其金融意识密不可分。现代金融业发源于欧美,近代来自广东四邑等珠江三角洲地区的北美华侨在其海外收入的存储、汇兑、投资过程中,较早地与侨居国的现代金融机构发生联系,由此培育出一批熟悉西方金融和市场经济运作的人才,对本民族现代金融和经济的萌芽和发展起到了积极促进作用。

The emigration motives and process of Chinese in modern North America were closely related to their financial consciousness.Modern finance originated in Europe and the United States.In modern times,Chinese in North America from the Pearl River Delta region such as Siyi of Guangdong Province had early contact with modern financial institutions in their host countries in the process of storing,exchanging and investing their incomes derived from overseas,thus a number of talented people familiar with Western finance and market economy operation emerged.They played a positive role in promoting the germination and development of modern finance and economy of our nation.
