Annotation Characteristics of Yao Shunmu’s Queries on The Analects Revised

在《重订论语疑问》中,受陈献章之学的影响,姚舜牧一方面积极阐发江门心学思想,以心为天地万物和纲常人伦之本,同时,他对程朱理学既有继承,也有修正,且以后者为主;另一方面,面对明末蹈虚之学风,姚舜牧极力倡言以学作圣贤、孝子、忠臣、信友为内容的实学,以求挽救明末之危机,这在明末阳明心学泛滥的情形下是难能可贵的。

Yao Shunmu’s(姚舜牧)Queries on The Analects Revised(《重订论语疑问》)was influenced by Chen Xianzhang’s(陈献章)study.In this book,on the one hand,Yao Shunmu actively expounded the thoughts of Jiangmen School of Mind,taking the mind as the foundation of everything in the physical world and all principles of human ethics.At the same time,he inherited and amended Cheng⁃Zhu Neo⁃Confucianism with the amendment as his major work.On the other hand,in the face of the speculative academic atmosphere in the late Ming Dynasty(1368⁃1644),Yao Shunmu strongly advocated pragmatic scholarship,learning to be sages,filial sons,loyal officials,and faithful friends,so as to address the crisis in the late Ming Dynasty,which was commendable in the pervasion of Wang Yangming’s School of Mind at the end of the Ming Dynasty.
