U.S.private think tanks play an important role in the U.S.military field,and their operation mechanism and development experience can provide reference and enlightenment for the construction of Chinese military think tanks.A case study was adopted to analyze the funding source and expenditure structure of RAND Corporation,a national strategic consulting institution.With website and literature research,RAND Corporation’s fund sources,fund use structure and use effectiveness were conducted and its characteristics and advantages were summarized.U.S.private think tanks emphasize the diversification of founding sources for construction,the investment in talent recruitment and training,and the financial support for independent research,which provides economic support for the development of think tanks.
