顾实《图书馆指南》误读二三事

Misunderstandings of T. S. Ku and His Library Guide

学界普遍认为《图书馆指南》的主要内容与日本图书馆协会编写的《図書館小識》的中译本《图书馆小识》相同,但顾实在书中并未言明其为译著,此举常为学界诟病,然而顾实为何不言明《图书馆指南》为译著这个问题却无人问津。通过分析相关资料发现,顾实确在《教育公报》曾公开声明《图书馆指南》为迻译新籍,但这一点却鲜为人知;该书加页的“文学丛书书目提要”的推广词中讲顾实编辑《图书馆指南》是为了介绍日本新学说等,则间接说明了该书为编译作品。同时对顾实与《图书馆小识》的翻译、《図書館小識》的版次与编者、顾实是否读过《图书馆小识》等几个误读,进行了阐明。

Library Guide was widely taken as similar to Library Introduction, a translation of Toshokan Shoushiki. T. S. Ku was accused of intending to steal others’ works by many scholars as he didn’t declare the work as a translation. But till now, there is still no answer to the question that why Ku didn’t declare Library Guide as a translation. By taking an analysis of relevant materials, a conclusion could be made that Ku did declare it as a new translation in the newspaper Education Gazette, but this piece of news was not well-known;in the “Bibliography of Literature Series” in the added pages of Library Guide, the editor stated that Ku’s compilation of Library Guide was to introduce new academic theories, which explained that this book was a translation indirectly. At the same time, some misunderstandings, such as Ku and the translation of Library Introduction, the edition and editor of Toshokan Shoushiki, and whether Ku has ever read Library Introduction, were clarified.
