The Origin and Extension of China-Japan Relations in the Post-war Era:Revisiting the Four Political Documents of China-Japan Relations

自1972年中日邦交正常化以来,两国关系虽时有起伏,但相对稳定并不断发展,历史证明是两国之间达成的四个政治文件为此提供了政治基础和保障。《中日联合声明》与《中日和平友好条约》所构建和形成的战后中日关系的精神原点和指导原则,是两国关系的出发点和归宿。在其延长线上,中日两国因时制宜,共同达成的《中日关于建立致力于和平与发展的友好合作伙伴关系的联合宣言》和《中日关于全面推进战略互惠关系的联合声明》,均为中日在双边关系发展的重大历史关头对时代要求做出的及时回应,为确保两国关系的建设性发展提供了强有力的政治保障。当下,中日关系又处于历史发展的十字路口,通过重温四个政治文件确立的战后中日关系的原点及其赓续,对于思考如何构建契合新时代要求的中日关系,具有重要的启鉴意义。

Since the normalization of China-Japan diplomatic relations in 1972,the relations between those two countries,although having experienced twists and turns,have been relatively stable and developing continuously over the past 50 years.The foundation of that progress rely on the four political documents reached by both China and Japan.The spiritual origin and guiding principle of post-war China-Japan relations constructed by "the Sino-Japanese Joint Statement" and "the Sino-Japanese Treaty of Peace and Friendship" are the starting point and destination of these bilateral relations.On its extension line,China and Japan jointly signed the China-Japan Joint Declaration on Establishing a Friendly Cooperative Partnership Committed to Peace and Development" and "China-Japan Joint Statement on Comprehensively Promoting Strategic Reciprocal Relations",which are a powerful response to the requirements of the times at a major historical juncture and provides a strong political guarantee for the development of this bilateral relations.At present,China-Japan relations are at the crossroads of historical development and revisiting the original aspirations and continuity of China-Japan relations after the end of WWII through the four political documents is undoubtedly meaningful in thinking about the way to build a new model of China-Japan relations that meet the requirements of the new era.
