在中国改革开放的时候,我爱上了中国的历史和文化,高中毕业后在卡尔·马克思的故乡——德国特里尔市,开始学习普通话和文言文。1987年,我第一次来到中国。当时我才21岁,刚刚获得中国政府提供的奖学金,到武汉大学学习。21岁的我对中文懂得很少,对中国懂得就更少了。武汉大学给新生安排了一个迎新晚会,也请了我们这些外国留学生参加。老师教了我们第一首中文歌——《没有共产党就没有新中国》。我们的演出很成功,但当时我并不理解歌词的含义。然而,我把它们记在了心里,从未忘记。

fell in love with Chinese history and culture during China’s reform and opening-up policy.After graduating from high school,I began to learn Mandarin and Classical Chinese in Trier,Germany,the hometown of Karl Marx.I came to China for the first time in 1987 at the age of 21,having just won a scholarship from the government of the People’s Republic of China to study at Wuhan University.At 21 years old,I only knew little Chinese and little about China.Therefore,Wuhan University arranged a welcome party for first-year students and invited international students to attend.Our teacher taught us the first song,“Without The Communist Party,There Would Be No New China,”we performed successfully,but at that time,the lyrics were difficult to understand.However,I kept them in my heart and never forgot them.
