银行竞争能否提高地区经济发展水平--来自中国城市层面的经验证据

Can Bank Competition Improve the Level of Regional Economic Development:Empirical Evidence from Chinese Cities

选取我国2011—2020年的城市面板数据,使用双边随机前沿模型分别测算了银行竞争对我国城市经济发展的促进效应、抑制效应以及净效应。研究结果表明:银行竞争能够同时产生促进和抑制两种效应,二者的共同作用将显著促进我国的经济增长;区域异质性检验发现,银行竞争对我国西部地区经济发展的促进作用最强,东部次之,中部最弱;银行竞争对长三角、长江中游和成渝城市群经济发展的促进作用均高于所在地区的整体水平。最后提出了进一步发挥银行竞争对我国城市经济发展促进作用的政策建议。

Using the urban panel data from 2011 to 2020 in China,this paper calculates the promotion effect,inhibition effect and net effect of bank competition on China’s urban economic development by using the bilateral stochastic frontier model.The results show that bank competition can produce both promoting and inhibiting effects at the same time,and the combined effect of the two will significantly promote China’s economic growth.The regional heterogeneity test finds that the role of bank competition in promoting the economic development of western China is the strongest,followed by the eastern part,and the central part is the weakest.The role of bank competition in promoting the economic development of the Yangtze River Delta,the middle reaches of the Yangtze River and Chengdu Chongqing urban agglomeration is higher than the overall level of the region.Finally,it puts forward policy suggestions to further play the role of bank competition in promoting the development of urban economy in China.
