A Plot Structure Analysis of the Legend of Lu Ban’s Manifestation

鲁班传说有着丰富的情节母题,也有着独特的故事结构,可以分为多个类型。其中一个类型的中心母题是鲁班以凡人面貌现身人间,帮助工匠或者百姓解决建筑过程中遇到的难题,可称为“鲁班显圣传说”。根据不同的情节结构,这类传说又可以区分出7个类型变体,在整理出这些类型变体的母题链以后,将它们叠加起来,就构成了独特的民间叙事生命树,体现了这类传说的情节结构。

The legend of Lu Ban contains a rich plot motif,and a unique story structure,which can be divided into multiple types.One type of the central motif is that Lu Ban appeared in the world as a mortal to help craftsmen and the ordinary people solve problems encountered in the house-building process,which can be regarded as“Lu Ban’s Manifestation Legend”.According to different plot structures,this type of legend can be further classified into seven variants.By sorting out and putting together the motif chain of all these variants,we can develop a unique life tree of folk narrative,which reflects the plot structure of this type of legends.
