“颠懂”考源

Tracing to the Etymology of Diandong(颠东)

方言谓人老昏愦糊涂为“颠懂”,音形多变,语源亦莫衷一是。“颠”本字当为“戆”,二者在上古已然音近,且在文献中亦有互用;而“懂”则是源出于“憧”之“[忄蕫]”的俗写字,三者在文献中亦见互用,故此,“颠懂”源词当为“戆憧”。

Diandong(颠懂)in the dialect describes people being muddleheaded,and there are many different form of pronunciation and writings.Its etymology is also unclear.The original word"颠"is“戆”(blunt and tactless),and the two are similar in sound and used interchangeably in literature;while“懂”is derived from the common word“■”of“[忄蕫]”.The three are also used interchangeably in literature.Therefore,the original word of"颠懂"should be“戆憧”.
