Language Transfer and Variation——English Translation of Titles of "Inner Chapters" in Zhuangzi

语言是文化的载体,文化是语言赖以生存和发展的土壤。文学典籍的译介不仅仅是两种语言之间的转换,更是不同文化间的交流、碰撞与融合。本文从比较文学的语言变异出发,扼要探讨《庄子》“内篇”的篇章题目在双语转换中各自的真实意义以及在《庄子》西播中英译处理的得与失。通过译介比较,探寻中国传统经典在英语世界的传播、影响与接受,有利于我们全方位、多侧面、多角度地认识中国文学典籍的本质特征,发掘中西文化彼此融合的丰富可能性。

Language is the carrier of culture, and culture is the soil on which language lives and develops. The translation and introduction of literary classics is not only the conversion between two languages, but also the communication, collision and fusion between different cultures. Starting from the linguistic variation of comparative literature, this paper briefly discusses the true meanings of the chapter titles of the "Inner Chapters" in Zhuangzi in the bilingual conversion, as well as the gains and losses in the Chinese-English translation of the Zhuangzi. Through the comparison of translation and introduction, exploring the dissemination, influence and acceptance of traditional Chinese classics in the English-speaking world will help us to understand the essential characteristics of Chinese literary classics in an all-round, multi-faceted and multi-angle manner, and to explore the rich possibilities of the integration of Chinese and Western cultures.
