News Avoidance within a Digital Media Ecosystem: Meanings, Logics and Coping Strategies

在数字媒体生态下,新闻回避成为一种日益普遍化的新闻接受模式,是新闻用户对信息失序、信息过载和舆论极化等结构性问题做出的有意义的抵消行为。新闻回避的行为逻辑是在用户和数字新闻生态的互动中形成的,用户通过这种看似消极的互动方式来实现拒绝承认、重建认知优先级和自我保护等不同类型的意义表达。基于数字新闻学“技术—文化共生论”的视角,新闻回避是数字新闻生态的反公共性病理的一个外在症候,是数字新闻业正在面临严重合法性危机的表征。对新闻回避的应对策略包括实践层面的重建公共信任,以及观念层面的重申规范理论。

In the digital media ecology, news avoidance has increasingly become a common news reception model, which is a meaningful counteraction of news users in reaction to structural problems such as information disorder, information overload, and polarization of public opinion. The behavioral logic of news avoidance is formed in the interaction between users and the digital news ecosystem. Through this seemingly passive-aggressive interaction, users realize different types of meaning expressions such as refusal to acknowledge, rebuild cognitive priorities, and self-protection. Based on the perspective of “techno-cultural symbiosis” of digital journalism studies, the prevailing news avoidance could be interpreted as an external symptom of the anti-public pathology of the digital news ecosystem, which is a sign that the digital journalism industry is facing a serious crisis of legitimacy. Coping strategies for news avoidance include rebuilding public trust at the practical level and reaffirming normative theory at the conceptual level.
