A Historical Study of Lin Chaoxi

林朝曦是明嘉靖末年粤东叛乱的骨干之一。其早期事迹湮灭,反抗事业同张琏关联密切。林朝曦名义上依附张琏,并积极配合其行动,但实际上保持着事实上的主动性。在明廷大举进剿前后,林朝曦主动出击,依托武夷山脉,活跃在赣东南和闽西,一度攻入江西平原地带。林朝曦部最后被明军剿灭。林朝曦的结局存在被擒杀、投降、逃亡三种观点。被擒杀是最被认可的结局,具体擒杀林朝曦的人物有徐甫宰等多种说法。

Lin Chaoxi was one of the leaders of the rebellion in eastern Guangdong in the late Jiajing Period, the Ming Dynasty. His early deeds faded into obscurity, and his rebellion was closely related to Zhang Lian. Nominally affiliated with Zhang Lian and in close cooperation with him,he maintained his de facto initiative. Before and after the Ming’s large-scale campaign, he strove forward and even attacked the Jiangxi plain. Lin’s force was finally destroyed by the Ming army, and there are three versions of his destiny: he might be killed, and he might surrender or flee. The first version is thought to be the most probable, and again there are different ideas about who captured and killed him.
